OVERVIEW

Copycat Reader is a tech company that has built a plagiarism detection platform geared toward high-stakes sectors: government agencies, educational institutions, and corporate clients. Its mission is simple but vital: help organizations verify document integrity and guard against content duplication, whether in academic, legal, or policy contexts.

Because we had already done work with the founders in past projects and they trusted our process, they turned to NovaSlate again to design a brand and web presence for Copycat Reader. They wanted a brand that felt established, authentic, and trustworthy from day one. The logo needed to feel professional but with just a touch of creativity—hence the magnifying glass and little cat built into the “O” in their name.

The website would function as an informational site / landing page more than a full product UI. Still, it needed to convey credibility and depth, support SEO, and convert interest into inquiries. Along the way, we also hosted and maintained the site and guided them in content tone and positioning.

THE CHALLENGE

From the start, the founders emphasized that Copycat Reader should look like a well-established company—not a scrappy startup. In the field of plagiarism detection and content integrity, credibility is everything. They couldn’t afford to seem lightweight or experimental.

At the same time, they wanted enough visual distinctiveness to stand out among more traditional brands. The balance was tricky: trustworthy but not boring; creative but not gimmicky. As they refined their requirements, NovaSlate had to be flexible, helping them adjust messaging, visual direction, and site architecture—all without losing consistency or momentum.

LOGO DESIGN & BRANDING

We began by sketching several logo directions—some more conservative, some bolder. The version they landed on included a subtle cat silhouette nestled inside the “O” that looks like a magnifying glass, giving a creative twist without undermining seriousness. From there, we built brand guidelines: color palettes, typography, and iconography that would allow the brand to feel cohesive across digital and print.

To make sure the visual identity aligned with psychological trust cues, our designers researched color theory in depth—studying how tech and security brands use color to convey reliability, confidence, and innovation. That exploration shaped the final palette and tone for Copycat Reader’s brand.

We also designed a marketing brochure used for conferences and B2B meetings, helping the team introduce the product professionally to corporate and institutional audiences.

WEBSITE DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

We built a clean, custom WordPress site tailored for an informational / lead generation flow. Key pages included product overview, features, use-cases for education and government, and contact. The design emphasizes clarity—white space, strong typography, intuitive navigation—so that visitors feel confident and informed. Behind the scenes, we structured for SEO fundamentals: fast loading, clean HTML, on-page keyword awareness, and good metadata.

SEO, HOSTING & MAINTENANCE

As part of our package, we launched with basic SEO setup—keyword research, on-page optimization, meta tags, and performance checks. After launch, we continue to host and maintain the site, ensuring uptime, security, backups, and minor updates. We’re not just here for the launch—we’re a long-term partner, helping our clients from the beginning to wherever their journey takes them.
